This blog was inspired in part by the coverage by the Globe & Mail of Joe Groia's hearing which took place in August of this year. (There were ten days of hearings. The matter has not concluded and is scheduled to resume at the end of January in 2012.)
In one of the first articles on the Groia case, the Globe & Mail disabled the comments on their website claiming that there had been too many people making inappropriate comments about Joe Groia and each other. With respect, this is difficult to believe. Mr. Groia has a great deal of support in the legal community and when a later article appeared about John Felderhof - the real bad guy in the drama - only about five people were still angry enough about Felderhof to criticize him in the Globe comments, and even those comments were not inappropriate enough for the Globe to suspend public input.
In a later article, comment were at first allowed and although there were not many comments, there were more positive comments about Joe Groia than negative ones. A few days later, those comments were removed and further comments were closed for "legal reasons".
The result was that there was no avenue for general public debate and in particular, supporters of Joe Groia had nowhere to provide their input and comments on what the Law Society was doing.
The purpose of this blog is to provide that venue. Please read the pages (below), comment, and email us if you wish. We look forward to hearing from you.
